A few more frames from my Deluxe Seeing Silence book - which is 40% off for signed copies until Wednesday. And it comes with a print. (Thanks to all you who already have it supported the book).

The @rizzolibooks book is collection of images and stories of the natural soundscapes behind them from 20 years of my work telling untold stories on water, rivers, mountains and trying to save wild places - which span all seven continents.

If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a soundscape is worth a 1000 pictures.

Honestly, I don’t like shopping. But I do believ Honestly, I don’t like shopping. But I do believe in savings: especially wild places.

So here is to protecting some of the wonders I’ve been lucky to see, I am discounting signed versions of my Deluxe Seeing Silence book by 40% and donating the difference back to organizations that help save land, water and wildlife.

For those not familiar with the book, it is a collection of my imagery from all seven continents, braiding together the auditory theme of natural soundscapes and the power of silence (and listening).

Seeing Silence won a National Outdoor Book Award last year, with special thanks to the essay contributions by acclaimed environmental writer Bill McKibbon and the inspirational adventurer Erik Weihenmayer, who sees light where few do (despite his blindness, he has summited Mt. Everest and kayaked the Grand Canyon). It comes with a print of the cover as well. Link is in my bio & at www.petemcbride.com/seeing-silence-deluxe/

Hug the quiet and save twice.

My relationship with heights has always been weird My relationship with heights has always been weirdly relaxed and wild. My friend @kevinfedarkoauthor (end of clip) has a wildly different reaction.

800 mile expeditions with constant cliff exposure can bring out extreme calm, edgy anxiety and everything in between. That is what I love about moving to the edge of one’s confort zone.

Looking forward to Kevin’s new book “A Walk in The Park” — about all of our Grand adventures — coming next year.

Where rainforest meets ocean: A mini-transect by b Where rainforest meets ocean: A mini-transect by boat and foot, across Gabon’s Loango National Park, was one of the most challenging and wonderfully wild experiences of my life.

@jonbowermaster and I followed #MikeFay and two amazing Gabonese kids with kayaks — through a network of lagoons, then a three day portage grind back to the sea, and a 100-mile paddle up the coast, riding currents and fighting surf.
We often slept in out boats with leeches and bands of bugs —played hide and seek with beach roaming forest elephants, watched hippos surf and listened to gorillas lullaby us to sleep.

It made me realize what wild truly is and how amazing it is that Gabon created 13 national parks and preserved 10% of its country, becoming a global leader in climate change.

Mike Fay’s remarkable MegaTransect in 1999, a 465 day, 2000-mile trek across the Congo Basin and Gabon to take an ecological census, initiated Gabon and U.S. to support the parks. Such vision and drive to make change still moves me today.
